Rather large BBQ

We run a very popular BBQ course but even we cannot compete with this set up.

Of course it is in America where they take it far more seriously than we do. With an engine that size I bet they can cook their burgers quickly !

But that aside what a BBQ it is.

Hot Weekend

According to weather forecasts, the coming weekend is going to be pretty hot! They don’t always get it right but lets hope they do this time, the Bank Holiday was a bit of a washout and it would be great to get some sunny weather whilst the kids are still on their half term.

Heston’s 80’s Feast

Heston's Feast

Heston’s back doing what he does best! Cooking up some really unusual dishes to test even the most daring of palettes.

When we visited The Fat Duck restaurant we were fed, snail porridge, breakfast for dessert cooked with liquid nitrogen and experienced some very strange sensations with food.

If you like something a bit unusual with cooking it’s worth a watch.

Xylitol - Have you heard about it?

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Xylitol

Pure xylitol is a white crystalline substance that looks and tastes like sugar. On food labels, xylitol is classified broadly as a carbohydrate and more narrowly as a polyol. Because xylitol is only slowly absorbed and partially utilized, a reduced calorie claim is allowed: 2.4 calories per gram or 40% less than other carbohydrates.

Xylitol has been used in foods since the 1960’s. It is a popular sweetener for the diabetic diet in some countries. In the U.S., xylitol is approved as a food additive in unlimited quantity for foods with special dietary purposes.

Over 25 years of testing in widely different conditions confirm that xylitol is also the best sweetener for teeth.

Some health regimens require iron willpower, discipline, and commitment. But xylitol tastes so good and it does not cause cravings like sugar or sweeteners do, so as part of a balanced diet it’s fantastic.  You can buy it in many stores one of which is Sainsburys.

Free Milk Jugs from Sainsbury’s

Free Milk Container

Sainsbury’s is to give out 400,000 free Jugit milk containers on Saturday in a bid to drive the popularity of buying milk in bags.

On Saturday (15 May), 500 Sainsbury’s stores will be giving away some 400,000 Jugits, which are manufactured by rigid plastics group RPC.

Emma Metcalfe-King, senior dairy buyer, said: “Milk bags are a great way for us to help the environment and when you can pick one up in store for free, they’re a great way to help the family budget.”

The milk bag costs 6p less than the equivalent bottle and Sainsbury’s said the moving from bottles to bags would save 1.4m tonnes of packaging a year. Only one in four plastic milk bottles are currently recycled, Sainsbury’s said.
